Kate Brick Joins Refugee Advocacy Lab as Director

Brick brings over a decade of refugee policy and advocacy experience to joint initiative of the International Rescue Committee, the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), Refugee Congress, and Refugees International aimed at expanding support for refugees.

WASHINGTON—The Refugee Advocacy Lab announced today the appointment of immigration and refugee policy expert and advocate Kate Brick as director.

Brick most recently held leadership roles at the Mayors Migration Council, a mayor-led advisory and advocacy organization that helps cities shape national and international policy on migration and displacement, and at New American Economy (NAE, now merged with the American Immigration Council), where she led state and local initiatives in more than 80 cities and 30 states to change the narrative on immigration and support mayors, governors, and state legislatures to enact policies that recognize immigrant and refugee inclusion as an economic asset.

Brick will oversee the Lab’s strategic vision for growing the movement for U.S. leadership on refugee protection and inclusion through three pillars of work: developing strategic communications products for the common good, championing inclusive state and national policies, and building the field through new partnerships, capacity-building and refugee leadership development.

“I am honored to join the Refugee Advocacy Lab at a time when our work to support the movement for refugee protection and inclusion couldn’t be more critical,” said Brick. “In its first year and a half, the Lab has brought together a powerful, committed group of partners who seek to restore communities of welcome through serving as a resource to the field, from offering strategic communications tools, to state policy advocacy, to direct capacity-building on the ground. The Lab has already demonstrated that we are more effective when we come together and leverage our unique strengths towards a common goal, and I look forward to building on this work.”

The new role is effective immediately. Brick will also serve as a senior advisor for strategic outreach at Refugees International.
